Endless ramblings regarding the every Tuesday & Thursday-morning bike ride, leaving Olive Hill & Canada Road at 7:45am, rain or shine

Can’t see Kevin in this photo because he’s not a Turkey

After Sunday’s tougher-than-usual ride, featuring Black Road for some really steep grades, I wondered what shape I’d be in today. Ready for anything, because I’d faced the worst and come through intact? Or would weary legs feel like lead?

Somewhere in between, actually. I didn’t feel particularly inspired as I watched Kevin gradually ride away. No fanfare, just a bit more speed as he slowly ramped up his effort on the climb. He’s way better on the second half than the first, probably one of those “finding your rhythm” things. That comes much much later in the ride for me. I’m totally gassed at the top of Kings, struggling to hold on as we head South on Skyline to the turnaround at Skegg’s parking lot, not really finding myself until we get past Swett. But once I do, I’m good, able to hold a much better pace and feel like I can keep on going rather than wonder why I’m out there.

Old news for sure…. still ready for it to get warmer!

Sunday’s ride was originally going to be the “regular” Pescadero/Tunitas loop, but after climbing Old LaHonda and descending the other side to the view point (opposite the carved rocks), we found ourselves looking at a coastline that… well, ok, we actually weren’t looking at a coastline, because everything was fogged in. So we headed back up to Skyline, then south and descended Page Mill and looped through Los Altos & back home. Pretty nice weather on this side of the hill!

Tuesday morning… still fog up in the hills! Didn’t look too bad when we left, but we should have known, since PurpleAir showed it being 41F up on top. Which doesn’t seem that cold until you realize it’s only 2 degrees higher than 39F, and you’d DEFINITELY think 39F was cold!

We headed south to the Skegg’s Parking lot, then turned around and did the Swett Tunitas loop, but this time without heading down Tunitas to the grassy knoll, because it was just too darned cold. It would have been so much better had we simply brought along our lightweight rain jackets. Doh!

Thursday, looks like more of the same. The weekend, more of the same. It will get warmer sometime, right?
